Where was this show when I needed it?

A few years ago when I was online dating, I used to get lots of first dates but very few second ones. I knew there was something wrong with me and my approach, but it is difficult to get constructive feedback from people who have rejected you. But now there is a TV show on LOGO that addresses this dilemna! Can't Get A Date profiles gay men and women who are experiencing trouble on the dating scene. The host, a disembodied voice that is a cross between Hal in 2001 and a Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, isn't afraid to inform guests that they are neurotic, dress tackily, and have bad skin. He also provides helpful commentary during video playback of their disastrous dates. The guests are then led through a makeover to improve their odds of finding someone. I could have used this show's help a few years ago when I kept striking out!

Big Brother is Watching...My Cats

I have been a little preoccupied lately because my cat is ill. She was looking skinnier than usual so I took her to the vet to be weighed. It turns out she has "fatty liver syndrome" from not eating enough. She has always been finicky and apparently for the past two months she has preferred to almost starve herself than eat dry food during the day. My vet refers to her as a "capricious eater" because she frequently flip flops in her food preferences and drives me crazy in the process. Fortunately her liver condition is reversible, but requires me to more closely monitor her eating. Thanks to the Panasonic wireless Pet Cam I can do this remotely. This amazing device connects to my DSL router and e-mails me images such as the one above whenever my cats trigger the motion sensor. My reputation as a crazy cat lady has been solidified.

Mama Mia Indeed!

I first saw Meryl Streep in the incredibly depressing film "Sophie's Choice" back in high school. If someone had told me back then that I would be watching her in an ABBA musical a quarter century later I would have not known how to respond. And I would not have foreseen enjoying a film this much! "Mama Mia" provides the ultimate cinematic escape with its lavish costumes, gorgeous settings, and earnest performances. Meryl Streep plays Donna, an American baby boomer who runs an inn on a fabulous remote Greek Island at which her daughter Sophie is to be wed. Little does Donna know that Sophie has been through mom's diary and narrowed her father's identity to 3 possible suitors--and invited all three men to her wedding. The music retains ABBA's quirky appeal. And the ending is happy. What more can you ask for from your entertainment dollars?
